Warnings over unwanted calls from Canada

Sparks and Vodafone are warning their customers to be wary after reports of unexpected phone calls from Canada. Customers across all three big New Zealand telephone companies - Spark, Vodafone and 2Degrees have reported strange calls being made to them from Toronto based numbers. Some people who received the calls over from Canada, usually the caller will hang up when they pick up. Those who have managed to have a conversation say the aim to be from a finance company.

Andy Ruiz happy to come up short against Joseph Parker

Andy Ruiz has given away height to most of his 29 professional opponents and never come close to losing. So Andy Ruiz isn't worried that he'll be starting up at Joseph Parker when the pair fight for the W.B.O heavyweight world title in Auckland on Saturday. Mexican Ruiz arrived here in Auckland on Saturday, standing at about 1.82m, Ruiz is short by heavyweight standards but it hasn't stopped him leaving a trail of destruction.

Mega-tsunami: Would Auckland survive?

The recent Kaikoura earthquake sent strong shock waves not only through the earth's surface, but the organisation tasked with informing has told kiwis that a major tsunami is possible. Following the degree 7.8 earthquake, balanced in power to the one that badly damage Napier in 1931 they have said that one is highly likely to hit if it happens again. A 2m-high tsunami had already hit the Kaikoura from the first earthquake.

US election: Betting favours Hillary

Image result for hillary clintonThe betting markets are strongly backing Hillary Clinton to win the US Presidential election. But have they got it right, or is this going to be a repeat of the Brexit decision? The UK's Betfair says Hillary Clinton is now trading at an 83 percent chance of winning. Betfair says 110 million pounds (NZ$186 million) has now been traded on the race. It looks a very good chance that total betting will exceed the 127 million pounds (NZ$215 million) bet on the Brexit market in June.

Whakatane fireworks to return, years after fiery disaster

Whakatane will have a public fireworks show this year - the first since 2009, when 40 minutes worth of bangers exploded in about 40 seconds. Thousand of dollars worth of fireworks went off at once in the fiery mishap, lighting up the Bay of Plenty sky, but also causing a lot of danger and scrub fire. Sadly two people were taken to hospital with major injuries after the accident. The November 12 Sky Show, two years in the making, will take place at Rugby Park.

IPCA called in over police checkpoint targeting pro-euthanasia group

The Independent Police Authority (IPCA) has been called in over a breath-testing checkpoint set up near a meeting in Lower Hutt promoting euthanasia. Acting Wellington District Commander Inspector Paul Basham said in a statement he aware of concerns around the checkpoint. It is appropriate that we report the matter to the IPCA for it's consideration. Police responsible for enforcing New Zealand's laws, and currently suicide or encouraging and helping someone to commit suicide is illegal in New Zealand he said.

The Greatest All Black Side Ever.

The 2016 version of the All Blacks have just completed a tier-one world record for Test victories and are now being talked about as the greatest New Zealand side in history. Over the course of the next two weeks, as the side heads overseas in an attempt to extend their record, Newshub wants to find out who you think is the greatest All Blacks side. Over the sixteen sides dating back to 1905 have been selected by our sports team, but you will decide the final results.
